(ECNS) -- Disaster relief materials worth of 100 million yuan ($1.43 billion) donated by north China’s Tianjin was announced to leave for its sister cities in Pakistan on Thursday to help the latter tackle devastating floods.
The emergency relief supplies including tents, emergency lights, quilts, halal food, animal feed and others were collected by the Tianjin government immediately to aid Islamabad, Karachi and Punjab after hearing the cities, which signed a letter of intent for an agreement on establishing sister city relations with Tianjin in September 2021, are suffering from floods, a government official said.
We hope that these relief materials can be delivered to the severely hit areas as soon as possible, passing the care and love of Tianjin people to every affected Pakistani, Luan Jianzhang, director of Tianjin Foreign Affairs Office, said at the departure ceremony of the supplies.
Moinul Haque, Pakistani ambassador to China, said that every day he receives calls and emails from many Chinese people and institutions, saying they want to donate money, which shows that hearts are linked together.
So far, a total of 12 Chinese provinces and cities have given a helping hand to Pakistan.
