Over 2,600 participants! 2024 International Wing Chun Competition opens in Foshan

On the evening of December 12, the 2024 International Wing Chun Competition officially kicked off in Foshan, attracting over 2,600 participants from nearly 30 countries and regions.
 

The event began with a stunning Wing Chun performance titled "Yong·Wu", showcasing the martial art's perfect balance of strength and flexibility.
Wen Xi, Vice Mayor of Foshan, welcomed Wing Chun enthusiasts from around the world and emphasized that hosting the competition in Foshan would reignite global interest in the art. She expressed hope that the event would inspire more people to discover and embrace Wing Chun, while strengthening cultural exchange and collaboration across the global martial arts community.
 





The competition runs from December 13 to 15 at the Qiaoshan Cultural Center in Xiqiao Town, Nanhai District, with more than 3,000 participants expected. Events include traditional forms, power training with high-tech wooden dummies, sparring, and an all-around category. Results will contribute to rankings in the Chinese Wushu Ranking System.
 



The International Wing Chun Competition is one of the top seven official events of the IWUF and is the highest-level competition for Wing Chun. From 2024, it will be held in Foshan for three consecutive years.
As the only "City of Martial Arts" in China, Foshan has long promoted Wing Chun and other traditional martial arts, becoming a hub for martial arts culture. The city is home to over 10,000 martial arts practitioners and nearly 300 schools, with more than 300,000 people participating in martial arts. Foshan's martial arts influence has spread to over 176 countries and regions, with more than 6,000 schools worldwide and over 10 million practitioners.
